• User experience (UX) is everything that an individual feels when using a particular product, system, or service. It also includes system properties of a person’s perceptions of utility, ease to use, and efficiency. User research can be conducted to evaluate explanations.
• Below are details from a research paper conducted in Korea about a framework to evaluate the UX of an AI service.
• User research can be divided into access method and data acquisition method. First, the access methods of user research are sorted into quantitative (indirect) research and qualitative (direct) research, and then again classified into behavioral research and attitudinal research, depending on how the data for user research were acquired. Select the appropriate user research method considering the access and data acquisition methods to evaluate the UX.
✔ Classification by access method
- Quantitative (indirect) user research: A method to indirectly acquire data on users’ behavior or attitude using tools (e.g. web log analysis, A/B testing, questionnaires, analysis of customer support data)
- Qualitative (direct) user research: A method to directly observe users’ behavior or attitude (e.g. interviews, focus group interviews, prototype testing)
✔ Classification by data acquisition method
- Behavioral research: A method to research how users behave (e.g. web log analysis, A/B testing, eye tracking)
- Attitudinal research: A method to research what users say (e.g. card sorting, in-depth interviews, research on requirements)
