  • 07-2aHave you fulfilled the license compliance of the open-source library in use?
    • Open source is free to use, but conditions for each license are stipulated separately. If you are using an open-source library in the AI model development, examine the license type and notices of the open source, and be aware of permissions or obligations to minimize potential legal risks.

    • The following are the 10 open source criteria defined by the Open Source Initiative:
    ✔ Free Redistribution;
    ✔ Source Code;
    ✔ Derived Works;
    ✔
    Integrity of The Author’s Source Code;
    No Discrimination Against Persons or Groups;
    No Discrimination Against Fields of Endeavor;
    ✔
    Distribution of License;
    License Must Not Be Specific to a Product;
    License Must Not Restrict Other Software; and
    License Must Be Technology-Neutral

    • You must be aware of the following regarding licenses when using a library with an open source license to develop AI models [29]:
     Must comply with the rights to larger works or derivative works and conditions on attribution notices
    ✔ Must include a notice of rights and attribution in the source form, as there can be copyright even for a small portion of the software
    ✔ Beware of license compatibility issue when combining software related to the AI model or including the software in another software
    ✔ Careful approach is needed when acquiring a patent through an open-source library and using it for litigation, as there could be a retaliation clause, and even if not, grant of license can be acknowledged
