  • 11-1aHave you examined the possibility of bias in the source code, such as the implementation process of the data access method?
    • Various biases can be created in the AI system such as omitting certain class access while implementing the access method of data you will use in the model into the code.

    • There can be potential cognitive bias when implementing an AI-based system for a public service (e.g. designating welfare recipients, AI interviews), such as producing a certain result more frequently from the inference results, when applying a processing rule based on the knowledge of the data processing expert in the pre-processing of the input image, text, or speech data. Examples of cognitive bias that may occur in a system’s source code are as follows:
ü Development of the crime or recidivism prediction system by applying the judgment criteria of an expert who is aware of characteristics of certain crime areas and criminals; and
ü Determination of the operation of the multimodal data-based assistant system for socially vulnerable groups by interacting with the users and making judgments based on expert’s criteria such as the user’s emotions and active state

    • Selecting experts with various background knowledge and experience may help you in mitigating bias in the system.
